Your attitude is the most important factor for success:

  • Be positive, useful, and supportive. Provide and solicit feedback.

  • If you need help and would like more of my attention, then let me know quickly, and insist until you get from me what you need.

  • If your studies are not your top priority, then you are likely in the wrong place.

  • Develop a go-get-it attitude ASAP!

  • Work hard (unless you can prove P=NP in a heart beat).

  • Keep in mind that a degree is earned .. so work on deserving yours.

The following facts are conventional wisdom:

  • It is extremely unlikely to produce quality output by studying only from 9-to-5.

  • Graduate school is perhaps more a test of character and endurance than anything else..

  • If you are not able to develop a passion for what you are doing, it is quite unlikely that you'll be able to complete a doctoral research.

Alert: I may not be the coolest advisor around. Please think carefully before you decide to work with me because I will never compromise on my standards... whatever they are. However, I promise to try my best to help you get where you want to be.
