I strongly advise you to take up a TA'ship during your education, both as a grader and as an instructor.

It is an invaluable experience especially if you are shooting at an academic career. It is also the best way to learn. So, even if you feel that you really do not want to stay at academia, keep in mind that it is an excellent training. Also, one never knows what to expect from the future...

Anyway, if you are working with me as a teaching assistant, then it is important to take this task extremely seriously and to maintain an as clear understanding of your expectations and mine as possible.
